Wine Writing

Rare combination of 30 years vineyard, winery, and professional writer, at your service.

Wes Hagen, a private wine education expert, sits on a chair made of barrel staves in a blue blazer.

Qualifications/Details:

  • Wes has written wine articles for the LA Times, is a West Coast Editor for Sommelier Journal, and has kept a column in WineMaker Magazine for 25 years.
  • Website, magazine or book articles that delight with authenticity, experience, and passion.
  • Tasting notes for your wines, with food pairings, and collateral creation
  • Wes Hagen has produced 100+ professional production sheets for varietal wines, integrating notes on color, clarity, aroma/bouquet, flavors, persistence, balance, food and wine pairings (important for sales!), and how long a wine can be aged/cellared
  • Standard tasting notes (fruit descriptions) don’t sell wine. Stories, food pairings, and stylistic notes work much better to sell your products.  Great wine notes sell more bottles and cases
  • Wes can teach these skills and writing to your staff, and teach the staff how to use these notes to capture imagination and attention, and sell more wine in tasting rooms, stores, restaurants, clubs and bars
  • Wes and Chanda can look at your entire collection of collateral: tasting notes, order forms, wine club signup sheets, etc. and give an honest and professional assessment of how to improve for better ease of use, increased sales volume, and customer engagement

Cost:

  • Individual questions via phone or email: $50-$150
  • Hourly: $150 or 8 hours for $1000
